My name is Will Williams and I am a 60 year old Jim Royle lookalike. I have lived in the Welsh town of Caernarfon for 22 years and have 3 children and 8 grand children. I have owned and run the guest house Ty Hapus in Caernarfon for 8 years now, which I set up with my wife Christine of 37 years who I sadly lost in Dec 2008 to an incurable lung disease. I have always used my lookalike of Jim to my advantage to raise a lot of money for various local and national charities over the years, and even more so in recent months to channel my thoughts away from the passing of my wife.
I know that after 22 years of living in Caernarfon that this is where I will spend the rest of my days, especially after the support and help I received from local people whilst Christine battled with her illness. This is why I have made it my mission to learn the Welsh language. I have always wanted to learn to speak it but have never had the time in the past to go to a college to learn it properly. Both my daughters can speak it fluently and so it would be great to be able to listen in on their conversations! I am passionate about Wales and where I live and so being able to speak Welsh will be a real privelege.
On this blog, I’ll be posting all my feelings and fears as I learn Welsh, and sharing some thoughts, experiences and tips with all you other learners out there. Hopefully, I’ll also manage to inspire others to start learning the language. Follow me as I go on this exciting journey through the world of learning Cymraeg…
